An aerial view of the first hole on the West Course at Winged Foot Golf Club, host site of the 2020 U.S. Open Championship.

The opening hole is a slight dogleg left with a fairway that becomes more narrow the farther a tee shot travels. In the opening round of the 1974 U.S. Open, Jack Nicklaus putted his ball off the green, which is among the most challenging on the West Course.
